Something different today on this first day of March 2015: a recap of my month written in English! February is such a weird month – it is not quite winter yet, but also not quite spring-y enough to really dive into the fresh, vibrant colours and newly updated looks we associate with that favourite time of year. It is, in many ways, a month in limbo – waiting, hoping, for that first week of actual, real sunshine and warmth. Well, February 2015 did not deliver on the sunshine front, that’s for sure! To be honest, I felt little interest in any of the new spring collections that have started to trickle into department stores.
My main concern throughout February was to: a) stay warm and b) desperately try to fight the grey and dull appearance of my fatigued and sun-starved skin. I got quite annoyingly sick at the beginning of February, so not much was happening for me in terms of exciting beauty experiments. What I did discover was that coconut water is the absolute best drink when you are down with a mystery bug. It is wonderfully refreshing, gives you precious electrolytes without the icky chemicals of Gatorade and co., and it also makes your skin feel wonderfully plump and hydrated even when you yourself feel like you are DYING from coughing your lungs out.
And it turns out, if you actually chill your coconut water AND choose the unflavoured version, it doesn’t taste half bad! Chilling it magically seems to turn its flavour from “unwashed feet” to “beach vacation in the Caribbean.”
Luckily, dm now offers its coconut water with a re-sealable tap, so you don’t feel silly anymore holding the unfinished packet in your hands for ages. Even though my cold/flu/mystery bug has long gone I haven’t stopped drinking this beauty miracle!
can’t even tell you how overjoyed I was when I discovered in early February that Korean skincare brand Missha, best known for their Perfect Cover BB Cream – one of the few BB creams on the Asian market that offers a wide range of shades even for darker skin – now runs an online shop based here in Germany. Of course I ordered a whole bunch of stuff and have loved pretty much everything!
My absolute favourites were the sheet masks, of course, in particular the Deep Sea Water Sheet Mask, which I am hoping to review this coming week. My fatigued and sickly skin has definitely improved thanks to the masks, it feels more dewy and hydrated, and the masks also helped combat those pesky fine lines on my forehead and that one AWFUL frown line right between my brows.
It was my step mum’s birthday in February, and this year I got her the very cool Travalo perfume dispenser in a bright red colour (featured in this blogpost by Amelia Liana) plus the Bobbi Brown nail polish in Bordeaux (recommended by London beauty blogger Tijan Serena here). I always feel you make the best presents if you pick things you yourself are excited about, and I’ll be honest, I totally want both of these things badly for myself! I mean, look how gorgeous the travolo colours are!
Starting this blog means that all of a sudden I am so much more aware of what’s out there in terms of affordable beauty products here in Germany. I had the most fun ever running through the drugstores trying to decide on the best products for under 1€! I think of all the blogposts so far that one has been the most fun to create.
While shopping….I mean, um… “researching” for my 6 under 1€ post I also grabbed a whole bunch of intriguing beauty masks I hadn’t noticed so far! Very excited to try them, especially that eye mask from Rossmann!
Make-up wise my two main loves were, of course, my wonderful Urban Decay Naked Palette (obsessed!) and a new face powder that at first I felt a bit “meh” about, but have now started to truly love: the Missha Style Fitting Wear Cashmere Powder. Due to the lack of sunshine and having faced a number of personal catastrophes throughout the month my skin has been completely lacklustre, and this gorgeously light loose powder has helped brighten my complexion on many a grey February morning! It seems to work better with BB creams than foundations though, where it can get a bit smudgy.
I also tried out a new DIY recipe for a brightening and invigorating lemon and sugar scrub and I love it so so much! Definitely going to write down the recipe for you guys, it’s super easy and makes the skin look all ready for sleeveless floral dresses and short skirts.
How has your February been? Have you tried any new products throughout the month? Hope you liked my little English post – I really enjoyed writing it I must say!
Take care, my dears!
