This article contains affiliate links* The Numbuzin Deep Sleep Mask Serum No. 6 is something really different: a sleep mask as a serum? Of course, I had to give this trending K-beauty product a try, so here is my review!
Numbuzin – Indie Brand with Viral Cult Status
Numbuzin products have been stealing my heart for a while now, and I genuinely can say that I’ve yet to try a product I didn’t like from them! At first I wasn’t sure if this relatively young brand would maybe be overhyped. They just seemed to have risen in popularity so fast and somewhat out of the blue in Korea, it felt like it might have just been a manufactured marketing ploy, ya know. But, nope! The products are just really, really great!
I bought the Numbuzin No. 6 Deep Sleep Mask Serum during a sale at Olive Young after liking their Nr. 3 Skin Softening Serum so much (review video here!). After checking the Olive Young sales charts, it became clear that after the Skin Softening Serum, this lighter, geared more towards hydration, serum was another very popular item in Korea. I didn’t know too much about this serum before I got it, and I have to say, it is quite unique!
Numbuzin Deep Sleep Mask Serum No. 6 – the Basics
The Numbuzin Deep Sleep Mask Serum is a very runny, almost water-like, hydrating serum. Numbuzin advertises it as a sleep mask in serum form, but I don’t know about that. Honestly, it is simply a serum, without any special “mask-like” abilities. Someone told me on YouTube that you can use it like a mask, basically, but given that it is so runny and light, I am not quite sure how to even do that. You can’t really apply a huge amount to create a mask-like layer, because it sinks in so fast and so thoroughly. So, I feel the naming part is more of a gimmick, but one that doesn’t diminish the overall quality of the serum for me.
Because this is definitely a high quality serum, with so many delectable quality skincare goodies. The key ingredient is 63% Icelandic glacier water, said to be rich with minerals and skin-plumping hydration. Glycerin and three types of hyaluronic acid add further hydration power, as do humectant sugar molecules.
Here is the full list of ingredients for the Numbuzin Deep Sleep Mask Serum No. 6:
“Glacier Water (63%), Butylene Glycol, Propanediol, Glycerin, Niacinamide, 1,2-Hexanediol, Water, Chlorella Vulgaris Extract, Xylitylglucoside, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Xylitol, Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extract, Melia Azadirachta Flower Extract, Coccinia Indica Fruit Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Flower Extract, Solanum Melongena (Eggplant) Fruit Extract, Ocimum Sanctum Leaf Extract, Corallina Officinalis Extract, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Glycereth-26, Panthenol, Pentylene Glycol, Glucose, Sodium PCA, Anhydroxylitol, Fructooligosaccharides, Fructose, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Sodium Citrate, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Adenosine, Hydrolyzed Glycosaminoglycans, Citric Acid, Benzyl Glycol, Tocopherol, Xanthan Gum.”
Numbuzin likes to add antioxidant plant extracts to its formulas, which is great. In case of the Deep Sleep Mask Serum, eggplant, turmeric, chinaberry and holy basil are some of the antioxidant superstar extracts that give the product a nice anti-aging, free radical combating boost. Turmeric and eggplant are also good for oily skin, as they can help balance out excess sebum and have an antibacterial effect. The serum is both alcohol- and fragrance-free, including no added essential oils!
Numbuzin Deep Sleep Mask Serum No. 6 – Delicious Hydration Booster
The first thing I noticed, and noticed positively, about the Numbuzin Deep Sleep Mask Serum is its texture: this is a very light, watery serum, almost more reminiscent of a liquid toner. The serum still has a noticeable viscous slip to it though, a certain richness when you apply it to your skin. It glides over skin deliciously, sinking in fast and thoroughly. What I also love is that you only need a small amount, a few drops will be enough for the entire face and neck.
Now, the whole marketing angle with the “a sleeping mask as a serum” shtick confused me when I started using the Deep Sleep Mask Serum. Because, honestly, I am not sure how you would use this any other way than as a, ya know, serum. The fact that this is so light, with such a runny, fast absorbing texture, makes it kind of hard to imagine layering this or applying a larger amount for a mask-like experience. Maybe it’s possible to soak pads with this serum and then use them as a sort of “toner mask pad” equivalent, but I don’t believe that this would produce a better hydration result than just applying a few drops to the skin.
And, guys: this really has some stellar hydrating properties! My skin plumps up noticeably when I use the Numbuzin Deep Sleep Mask Serum, and everything just feels and looks smoother, dewier and very well hydrated. This is also an overall gentle product, with minimal breakout potential, so I feel that very dehydrated oily to normal/combo skin will enjoy this. Dry skin that feels tight and dehydrated should also do very well with this hydration bomb.
I honestly feel this didn’t need the “sleep mask serum” label, as the serum stands on its own feet without the addition of a gimmicky marketing spin. This is a very light, yet deeply hydrating product, with excellent plumping abilities and an overall delightful formula. Numbuzin does so well when it comes to unique and ingredients-focused formulations, it is what the brand excels at in my opinion.
If you’ve been looking for a new hydrating serum that feels refreshing and light in this summer heat, but still want it to deliver intense hydration and leave your skin dewy and plump, then the Numbuzin Deep Sleep Mask Serum No. 6 is an excellent choice! If you want something that can be used as a hydrating mask, however, then I’d rather use a toner for a DIY mask, or a sheet mask.
